One of the great features of Raymarine Marine Electronic products is their constant research and development into making existing equipment do more for their owners. This is delivered in the way of free software updates that you can install yourself.

Why should I go to the hassle of updating my software?

You’ll notice that many ‘bugs’ have been fixed – and many new features have been introduced in the newer software versions. Raymarine is constantly working on their products making them more useful and they offer these software upgrades at no extra cost.

An example of this is the recent Augmented Reality update for the Dragonfly-PRO series that overlays your waypoints on top of the real world on your phone. (click here to see more)

In the past, software updates on any device – let alone a Chart Plotter/Depth Sounder – have proved to be less than simple.

Luckily, Raymarine have developed a quick and easy process for you to update your device and get free access to these great new features.

Franklin Marine are providing you with this easy, step-by-step guide to help you navigate through the process.
Raymarine do have an extensive library of guides on their own website which are more technically-oriented.

Today I’ll be running you through step-by-step the process of updating a Raymarine Dragonfly. Let’s get to it!

NOTE: This guide is intended for the new Dragonfly-PRO range, but the steps should be very similar on the legacy models of the Dragonfly.

Step 5

Locate and extract the file you just downloaded.

Step 6

Copy the extracted update files to an EMPTY microSD card.

Note that there should not be any folders in the card for the update to work – just all of the update files in the main (root) directory.

You may need a microSD card reader or adaptor to insert the microSD card into your computer. If you’re having trouble, feel free to give us a call on (03) 6266 3768 so we can run you through what you need.

6

This step could take some time.

7

Step 7

Once the files have copied to the microSD card, remove it from your computer and carefully insert it into your Dragonfly unit.

8

Step 8

Power on the Dragonfly unit.

9

You should see a screen like this, and this could last for some time.

DO NOT interrupt this process as it could damage your unit.

10

10-1

Step 9

Your Dragonfly should reboot after it has finished updating. Press “Accept” and you’re done!

Should I use my Naviontics + plus card for the update or use a new Micro SD Card for the update then after it is done re add my Naviontics card?

Hi Derek,
When updating your Raymarine Dragonfly (or any piece of Raymarine equipment) you want to use a blank MicroSD Card and then re-insert your Navionics card after the update is completed.

Changing the file structure on a Navionics card can have negative effects and it is not recommended unless you are updating the Navionics card itself. You can follow these steps if you wish to do this.

Hope this helps – if you have any further questions please get in touch with me directly at it@franklinmarine.com.au

Kind regards,
Kobi
